Basic building blocks – 22 project

4th January 2017

With most of the holiday season behind us, today Hunter was introduced to basic concepts of programming. Readily familiarising himself with the visual building blocks on MadeWithCode, he had a lot of fun and managed to produce some animations, music clips, and rudimentary games by drag-and-drop. In doing so, he developed a broad understanding of the visual and story structure behind a computer game and how characters and scenes were visually assembled.

Hunter then moved on to basic code constructs using the Blockly programming language. After a few minutes, he managed to associate some of the constructs he had learnt, such as if…else…then and repeat…do, with situations in games he had played such as Minecraft.

Hunter commented that he was having a headache at the end of the 90 minute session, but he was clearly having a lot of fun.
