The MVP in Melbourne yesterday gave me a final long hit-out before my main event in February – the Delirious W.E.S.T. 350km which will start in about a week and a half. With the slightly hilly terrain and hot humid smokey condition, it turned out to be perfect tune-up. With a smallish field (32 runners) but sufficient depth of quality, the race certainly came with its usual physical and mental struggles. But generally I had fun throughout, thanks to the great camaraderie of Julz @juliecolsell Gazza @garry_yaxley Ris @marissaris1 Chloe @chloe.dance546 and fellow runners and supporters from the running community, plus the high quality organisation from Brett Saxon @trailsplus Trails+ , crew and vollies.
I decided to pull out after 16 laps (~107-108km) – a happy man – when the heat up the hills was starting to sap energy very quickly. Congratulations to Ben Hirst @run_for_mental_health_, a worthy last one standing, and all other competitors.
