Someone actually recognised the BRR top during the Sri Chinmoy Winter Marathon yesterday. She cheered me on as I slogged through the back half. Thank you!
This marathon #27 felt as hard as marathon #1 which I completed just over 2 years ago. With a reasonably flat course and good weather, it was not supposed to be too hard. However, having resumed training last week with new speed work routines, clearly the legs and the body needed time to adapt to the new regime – a good lesson for the next race.
As with any other Sri Chinmoy race, there was a quietness about the way runners went about things. I started the first quarter well, with a PB in sight. The second quarter was a bit more conservative, but still solid. However after the half way mark, the muscles pulled up in a way I had not experienced previously. The remaining 20kms turned into a scramble home. It was a tough run mentally, and I was happy to see my family at the finish line.
On reflection, I like these slogging runs. They provide a good test and build a good foundation for better performances in the
future.
Thanks to Prashphutita for the photo.
